Title: ‘Insight and Understanding’
Abstract: “This talk explores a particular sort of understanding, understanding why, and a particular sort of knowledge why—firsthand knowledge why, especially through intuitive insight—and its place in the humanities including philosophy. I argue for the special importance of firsthand intuitive insight on many questions in the humanities, and for implications concerning first disagreement, and second the applicable epistemic standards of reliability.”
